A wet location rating means the fixture is built for water running on it or splashing against it, not merely for humid air. That is the distinction that matters when an inspector looks at a fixture in a car wash bay, an exterior soffit, an unroofed parkade deck, a walk-in cooler or the wet zone of a shower. A damp location fixture in any of those places is the wrong fixture, and it is the kind of substitution that gets caught.
