Warranty

Everything we sell carries the warranty of the manufacturer who made it. The useful part is what happens when something fails: you come to us, and we deal with the manufacturer. You should not have to chase a warranty department in another country over a driver that failed in month fourteen.

What the warranty is

Warranty terms are set by the manufacturer and vary by product — commonly five years on LED fixtures and drivers, longer on some commercial ranges, shorter on lamps and accessories. The period and terms that apply to your product are the ones published by that manufacturer, and we will tell you what they are for anything we have quoted.

Where a product has a published spec sheet we link it on the product page, and the warranty statement is usually on it.

What it covers

Manufacturing defects and premature failure in normal use: a fixture that stops working, a driver that fails, a batch with a colour or output fault.

What it does not

  • Installation labour. Manufacturer warranties cover the product, not the cost of removing and refitting it. This is standard across the industry and worth pricing into a job before you quote it.
  • Damage in transit after delivery, physical damage, or water ingress on a fixture not rated for the location.
  • Failure caused by installation that does not follow the manufacturer's instructions, by an unsuitable dimmer or driver pairing, or by supply voltage outside the product's rating.
  • Normal depreciation in light output over the life of an LED product, within the manufacturer's stated limits.

The dimmer pairing one accounts for a large share of the LED failures we see. If you are matching a dimmer to a driver and are not certain of the combination, ask us before you install a hundred of them.

How to make a claim

  1. Email admin@vcanelectrical.com with your quote or order reference, the product, roughly when it was installed, and what it is doing.
  2. Send photographs if there is anything visible, and the date code or batch number from the label if you can reach it. A batch number turns a claim into a fast one.
  3. We raise it with the manufacturer and come back with what they will do — replacement, credit, or a repair — and how long it will take.

Keep your quote reference. It is how we prove the purchase date, and a claim without one takes longer.

Installation and code

Electrical work in Ontario must be done by a licensed electrician and is subject to the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and ESA inspection. A product installed outside its listing or outside the manufacturer's instructions is generally outside its warranty as well, and more importantly may not be safe.
