Mounting plates
A mounting plate gives a slim panel or gimbal a fixed, square seat in a ceiling that has no housing — new construction before the drywall goes up, a T-bar grid, or a remodel where the existing opening is the wrong size or has been cut ragged. Galvanized steel is used because it holds its shape under the lamp's heat and does not need painting above the ceiling line.
Match the plate to the fixture aperture, not to the hole: a 4 inch light wants a 4 inch plate even where the existing cut-out is larger, and the lipped version is the one to reach for when the opening has been over-cut and needs covering.
Extension cables
The 2 ft extension cables move a junction box away from the fixture where the joist layout puts it somewhere awkward, or where a run of lights shares one feed. The single-CCT and 3CCT versions are not interchangeable — the 3CCT cable carries the extra conductors the colour selection needs, so ordering the wrong one leaves the selector dead.
